How do I get a Hearing Aid - NHS or Privately?
The NHS now provide good quality digital hearing aids and in a reasonable time.
However, privately you will find more choice of technology, manufacturers, styles and cosmetically more appealing hearing aids than the NHS can offer and usually in a shorter time.
Why not book an appointment now to see what is available privately at Endon Hearing Care Centre?
How to get a NHS Hearing Aid
If you have noticed you have trouble hearing you should see your GP. If your GP is unable to diagnose a cause of your problem they will be able to refer you to a specialist. This could be an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, a hearing specialist (Hearing Aid Audiologist) or to a clinic run by audiology staff at your GP surgery or a local health centre.
The specialist will decide whether you may need a hearing aid and, if so, which type will be most suitable to your level of hearing loss.
How to get a Hearing Aid privately
If you want to buy a hearing aid privately, you’ll need to find a Hearing Aid Dispenser. Make sure they are fully qualified and registered with the HPC. Make sure you ask.
If you go private you will find a much wider choice of styles and technology. You will be offered a full hearing test and advice about your hearing and what you could do to resolve your hearing problems.
This advice could be:
· You do not have a hearing loss
· You do not need hearing aids
· You need excessive wax from your ear removed (If so, see our section on Microsuction.)
· Best advice is you need to see your G.P.
· You need hearing aids and this is what is the best for you
