Hearing loss could be linked to dementia

Researchers in America have discovered possible link between developing hearing loss and the onset of dementia.

As deafness is an isolating condition it could lead to a decline in mental function, increasing the risk of dementia. Therefore, hearing loss can be regarded as an early warning sign for the development of frightening diseases such as Alzheimer's.

Researchers say the reasons for the link are unclear, however hearing loss can be treated with the use of hearing aids - some so small they are barely noticeable. In doing so this will prevent the decrease in mental activity, ultimately preventing the risk of dementia.
