Hearing Aid Manufacturers
There are more than 25 hearing aid manufacturers worldwide, but just 6 of them dominate the private industry here in the UK.They have all contributed heavily to advances in hearing aid technology and continue to find revolutionary ways to improve the quality of life for those with hearing loss through research and development.
GN Resound
ReSound is part if the GN ReSound Group who also own Danavox among other companies. With its headquarters in Denmark, GN ReSound has roots dating back to 1943 and is now represented in over 80 countries. In the UK GN ReSound are based at Weston on the Green in Oxfordshire.
Oticon
Oticon is the second largest hearing aid manufacturer in the world and their UK base is in Hamilton, Scotland. Founded in Denmark in 1904 by Hans Dermant. Oticon now supply hearing aids to more than 100 countries. Oticon also own the manufacturer Bernafon who are considered the low cost alternative to Oticon.
Phonak
Phonak was founded, and still has its headquarters, in Zurich, Switzerland where it has been developing new hearing aid technology for more than 50 years. Phonak is among the global leaders in the development of new hearing aids, as well as supplying hearing aids to more than 100 countries. In the year 2000 Phonak Group acquired Unitron making them one of the largest manufacturers in the world and in the UK manufacturing takes place in Warrington.
Siemens
Siemens is a worldwide corporation founded in Germany. Their first line of hearing instruments was produced in 1910 and it is now the world's leading supplier of hearing aids. As well as supplying hearing aids to national and independent retailers from it’s base in Crawley, West Sussex, Siemens have also provided hearing aids to the NHS for over 30 years. Some high street retailers predominantly sell Siemens hearing aids but have them re-branded to appear as their own product.
Starkey
Starkey was founded in the USA more than 40 years ago by CEO William F. Austin. Today they have more than 22 facilities in 18 countries worldwide with their UK facilities located in Stockport. In the early years they were the leaders in cosmetic in-the-ear technology, and since the launch of digital hearing aids they have made some innovative technological advances.
Widex
Widex is a family company that was founded in 1956 in Denmark where most of its research and production still takes place. They are considered one of the most innovative hearing aid manufacturers in the world, with 50 years experience in research and development. They are now the sixth largest hearing aid manufacturer in the world, supplying almost 100 countries. In June 2010 they opened a brand new manufacturing base in Chester. This investment was made to improve quality and support to UK distributors and consumers
